Dork on the Run Harper Collins, 2002, 184pp, $15.52
Carol Gorman ISBN# -0-06-029409-4

“Mom I’m leaving.” This is what Jerry said when he was just about to go to his new school. He had just moved to a new town called Hawthorne and would be going to Hawthorne middle school. When Jerry just showed up to the school he hoped to enjoy his new school and meet new friends. All of that was smacked out of him very quickly. He got called four eyes, nerd and a dork. Miraculously just when hope was about to fade, Jerry’s future friend walked up the outside staircases. Her name is Brenda and when they bumped into each other that was the start of great relationship. During the school year class president elections come up. Brenda told Jerry he should definitely do it. Jerry said he wasn’t really good at that stuff. That really wasn’t the problem though, Gabe Marshall was also running and he was the meanest bully in the school. Jerry is terrified of him and doesn’t know what to do.
Carol Gorman creates great thoughts and feeling of a sixth graders mind. The dialect is also used to sound like a sixth grader. If you decide to read this book and like read the whole series.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid
By Jeff Kinney
ISBN 0-8109-9313-9
Amulet Books, 2007,
pp., 224, $4.99

“The best I can figure out is that I’m somewhere around 52nd or 53rd most popular this year. But the good news is that I’m about to move up one spot because Charlie Davies is above me, and he’s getting braces next week.”

Greg is an undersized, weak kid who is trying to get through his middle school years. He has a diary he writes in at the end of each day on how his day went. He gets bullied a lot by kids at his school, as well as with his brother Rodrick. His little brother Manny, drives him insane. Different events happen throughout this book, as Greg deals with teenage issues.

This book is hilarious! I recommend this to anyone and everyone! It’s a very fast read-so fast, I finished it in about one day. I laughed a lot while reading this book. Kinney includes hysterical pictures to make it even more funny. You will laugh about every one or two pages. I couldn’t put this book down.

The Lambkins
Eve Bunting
Harper Collins, 2005,180 pp., $ 15.99
ISBN-10:0-6-059906-5

What would you do if a crazy woman, named “The Shepard”, kidnapped you, shrunk you down to six inches, then put you in a dollhouse, and called you her “lambkins”?! This is exactly what happened to Kyle, and five others. Kyle, the main character, is always thinking of ways to escape from “The Shepard’s” clutches, but there are, “no doors, no windows, no way out”(22)! Usually “The Shepard” abolishes his plans, but he still doesn’t give up to escape from that evil woman, to be with his family again.
The Lambkins by Eve Bunting is a thrill ride! It is filled with twisted humor, and is one of the most amazing books that I have read. The author was so descriptive I felt I was in the dollhouse with Kyle. It pulled me closer, and closer as I flipped each page. I suggest this astonishing book to anyone who can read. It is truly an awesome book, and I rate it a ten!

The BFG
Ronald Dahl
Jonathan Cape, 1982, 219pp., $17
ISBN: 0-374J-30469-6

One night a little girl named Sophie was sleeping in her bed just minding her own business, but then out of the darkness came a giant hand, and snatched her right out of her bed. She quickly went into shock as the mysterious hand grabbed her. When she woke up she met the person who lifted her out of her bed. He was a giant, and they were in Giant Land. She quickly felt nervous, but then got to know the giant, and it turned out he was a Big Friendly Giant (BFG). Later on in the novel she finds out that the BFG was actually trying to protect her from the big, mean, scary giants that were going to eat her. During the night the big mean giants go out looking for children to snack on. The BFG tries to stop them, but he’s much smaller than them so he can’t do much. But, with the help of Sophie there is a chance they can finally stop them. Will they?
I thought that The BFG by Ronald Dahl was suspenseful and very exiting, because Ronald Dahl describes every thing so well, and he makes a great movie behind your eyelids. I recommend it to children of all ages

The BFG
Roald Dahl
Penguin group, 2007, $16.99,PP: 208
ISBN: 13:9780142410387

Have you ever seen giants before? I’m talking from small nice giants to big, huge mean giants. I’ve never seen giants before. The main characters of this book are Sophie and the B.F.G. Sophie is a girl who is about nine years old and she loses her parents and she’s forced to live in an orphanage. Then something scary but good happens A big giant comes and takes Sophie in the middle of the night and that’s when her adventure begins. The B.F.G is a giant. The B.F.G, which stands for Big, Friendly, Giant. The B.F.G is one out of nine giants. But there are only three differences between the B.F.G and the other eight giants. One is that he’s much, much shorter then the other giants. Two, he doesn’t eat children like all the other giants do. Last but not least the B.F.G blows good dreams into little young children while they sleep. I think Roald Dahl makes this story very adventures and very descriptive.
The B.F.G is a fictional book. I recommend this book to children six to ten because this book is more for children who are starting to read chapter books. Seek the B.F.G and find your dream!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules
By Jeff Kinney/ Amulet Books
ISBN: 978-0-8109-9552-9
217 pages
Copyright 2008
US $4.99

Keeping a secret can be hard, and that’s what I think about this book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules.
Greg enters the new school year. He wanted to forget one event from the summer. His brother Rodrick knows about it and wants to get the secret out. Greg must not let anyone know about the secret.
The novel is in cartoons just like the cover says. There are drawings on every page of the book. The font looks like it’s handwritten rather than typed.
The book is outstanding. It shows how much effort Jeff Kinney put into this book. My opinion is that the book is funny and cartoonish. I recommend it to anyone who has spare time.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules

“Rodrick’s van doesn’t actually have any seats in the back, so I had to squeeze in with all the band equipment. And every time the van came to a stop, I had to pray I didn’t get my head taken off by one of Rodrick’s drums.”
Greg is entering a new year of middle school and hopes for the best. He wishes, but he knows that’s not going to happen. It’s exactly the same kind of torture for him: School problems, bullies, and his older brother Rodrick who tortures him with pranks. Rodrick has more power and can over-power Greg. So, “Rodrick Rules” in this book!
In this humorous book the author does a great job on acting like a wimpy kid. This book is hilarious! The pictures make me laugh even harder. I totally recommend this book to everyone. It’s an awesome book!
